This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Senior Engineer, Combustion Research. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading Engineering Projects.

Thinking Beyond your desk includes:

• Perform CFD analyses of diesel engines including solid modeling, mesh generation, model setup, and post-processing
• Develop combustion system designs (combustion recipes) for new diesel engines using CFD, including piston bowl geometry, required spray characteristics, swirl levels, etc.
• Make sound decisions in pushing the design limits of the engine combustion system to achieve best performance.
• Document analysis and experiment results in technical reports.
• Use current methods of acquiring and analyzing test data while finding ways to improve both processes
• Analyze, report, and act on test and analysis results.
• Participate in team engine design reviews.

Skills & Experience Required:
Communication - Written And Verbal - Is able to effectively and clearly communicate in both written and verbal means.

Fundamentals of thermal and fluid sciences, and/or physical chemistry - Basic knowledge in the areas of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, combustion, and/or physical chemistry. This knowledge includes both analytical and experimental applications. Ability to apply this knowledge to areas such as engines, after treatment systems, fuel systems, air handling systems, power generation and filtration systems.

Energy conversion systems knowledge - Basic energy conversion systems knowledge. Energy conversion systems knowledge includes an understanding of the working principles of power generation, including engines and systems related to engines, such as after treatment systems, air handling systems, fuel systems, and filtration systems.

Thermal and fluid science specialty of interest - Basic knowledge in a specialty of interest in the areas of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, combustion, and/or physical chemistry. This area is a very broad, requiring focus on a subset within thermal and fluid sciences, with more detailed knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to the specific area of interest.

Teamwork skills - Cooperates with others, fully contributes to achieve the team goal.
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications:

MS in Diesel engine combustion and multidimensional engine simulation (PhD preferred)

Compensation and Benefits:

Base salary commensurate with experience and bonus.
