Division or Project Summary
OLRT (Ottawa Light Rail Transit) Constructors consisting of SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific) Inc., and 2 partner companies, have unique and challenging career opportunities to be an integral part of the project to design and build the Confederation Line.

From Tunney's Pasture in the west to Blair Station in the east, the Confederation Line will bring Ottawa together through faster, easier transportation to, from and across the city's downtown. Key components of the project's initial phase include the construction of 12.5 km of guideway, 10 above-ground stations, 3 underground stations and a 2.5 km tunnel beneath the downtown core. The consortium will also widen Highway 417 between Nicholas Street to the Highway 174 split, supply the light rail transit vehicles, build a maintenance and storage facility, and provide ongoing maintenance of the system for a 30-year period.

Job Description
The OLRT Constructor's Senior Field Superintendent is responsible for managing all System field operations on the project in order to achieve timely and profitable completion. The Senior Field Superintendent directly supervises superintendents and coordinators. This position must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as have strong communication skills at various levels of management.
Location: Ottawa, ON
Schedule: 40 hours workweek, may be required to work overtime
Job status: contractual until May 2018

  • Direct day-to-day on-site supervision of Superintendents
  • Assist System Manager in the supervision and responsibility of the total construction effort in accordance with design, budget, quality, and schedule
  • Provide technical assistance (interpretation of drawings, recommendation of construction methods and equipment, etc.) as required, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection
  • Inspection of Contractor or (Sub) Contract operations to ensure compliance with Contract
  • Review and approve Sub Contractor Payment Applications with System Manager
  • Maintain good relationships with internal and external clients, including representatives of Owner, Architect/Engineer and Partners
  • Develop and maintain site logistics plan, in coordination with Systems Manager
  • Development of Quality Assurance & Controls; Conduct quality inspections
  • Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts
  • Monitor costs, including labor time and material
  • Communicate and enforce Zero Incident Safety and Health Management Program
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Environment through own actions and mentoring others
  • Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates
  • Prepare and submit Superintendent's Daily Reports to document weather and field conditions, trade and subcontractor manpower, progress and conditions impacting the project, as well as Accident Reports, Quality Reports, etc.
  • Take part in constructability reviews with the design groups
  • Directly responsible for the implementation of works both self-performed and through subcontractors
  • Work with key system sub-contractors on the installation and set-to-work of their equipment
  • Support Test & Commissioning activities as necessary
  • Chair subcontractor meetings
  • Attend and participate in project meetings
  • Providing training and education to support superintendents and coordinators

  • Experience with Mass/Light Rapid Transit and train controls systems a must.
  • Have an electronic related degree/diploma in electronic engineering and ten to fifteen years of electrical, electronic and mechanical experience.
  • In depth Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Building Code and NFPA 130
  • Experience interacting with design groups field installations and suppliers.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong, self-motivated, work ethic.
  • Ability to make decisions in the field based on sound judgment and experience.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Experienced in communication installations.
  • Experienced in electrical installation (High Voltage, Meduim Voltage and Low Voltage)
  • Experienced in scheduling, project management and contract software.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work on multiple Project simultaneously.
