About the role:
We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to provide care and support to a gentleman with a progressive neurological disorder. Our client is wheel chair bound and requires assistance to propel. He is nil by mouth and has recently got a peg inserted, and therefore experience in peg feeding is an added advantage.
Given his slurred speech, the right candidate will be required to communicate clearly and be in position to interpret and discern what the client is trying to say.
This client has a rare neurological condition which has affected his cognition. He uses a wheelchair for his mobility but requires assistance to propel. He also uses a bed lever to assist with bed mobility. He is prone to all body spasms which will be unpredictable and involuntary. The client is at a high risk of falls due to his impulsive behaviour and an inability to recognise risks. He is currently nil by mouth and his medication is currently being administered via peg. He is also being monitored by the community Speech and Language therapist.
This package of care requires 1:1 care, 7 days a week, and 24 hours a day. This package has recently been increased to accommodate a 2nd carer for 5 morning hours each day, to support with manual handling.
The shift patterns are:
9:00am-2:00pm(short day support hours)
The client is fully dependant on his workers for all aspects of his daily personal care.
His needs include a daily shower, catheter care, transfers with an aid of a standing hoist, setting up and administering of medication via peg and all aspects of personal hygiene.
The client likes to be taken to theatres, museums and out on walks. He has got a favourite doughnut shop in his local area which he likes to be taken to on a regular basis. All these activities are very important to our client and his family.
Rates of pay range from £10.00 to £19.00 per hour.
