Southern Water is currently recruiting for a Public Health Governance Manager. The successful candidate will act as the principal company expert on Public Health and will be responsible for providing guidance on public health related matters as a part of day to day operations and during water quality incidents. |
Public health experience, microbiology background
This is a key role at Southern Water and the focus will be on embedding a public health driven culture within the company by developing and maintaining company policies that result in good practice with regards to water quality and public health.
The successful candidate will be responsible for forming and managing the water quality and public health policy forum, whose aim is to entrench the principles of public health and hygiene within the Company's culture.
The Public Health Governance Manager will act as company representative for the WaterUK Public Health Network and UKWIR Toxicity Advisory Steering Group and will organise and represent Southern Water at the annual public health liaison meeting with EHO's and CCDC's.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring suitable policies and governance checks are in place to manage the public health risks associated with the supply and distribution of drinking water from source to tap.
The Public Health Governance Manager will be responsible for ensuring the company has and continues to embed the recommendations of the expert group on Cryptosporidium in its operational practices, providing updates to other areas of the business when appropriate. The post holder will also hold responsibility for ensuring Southern Water is fulfilling its statutory duties in relation to materials in contact with drinking water, providing final sign off that materials used by the Company are compliant with Regulation 31.
The post holder will co-ordinate and complete the annual water quality and public health audit programme, working with other internal auditors to identify and utilise synergies to maximise benefits by cross department working.
The Public Health Governance Manager will assists the Water Quality & Public Health Policy Manager in liaison with Public Health England and Local Authorities, ensuring any uncontrolled risks associated with water quality compliance or improvement programmes are communicated, and that Southern Water is informed of any issues relating to private water supplies or communicable diseases in its region.
The Key Skills, Experience & Qualifications required for the role:
• Essential – Degree in microbiology or public health related discipline
• Desirable – Post graduate qualification in science, engineering, water or environment.
• Desirable - Should hold chartered Scientist or Engineer or Environmentalist status or be working towards chartered status.
• Extensive experience in either the water sector in drinking water quality regulation, management or process science, or the public health sector as a technical specialist in public health, having focussed on drinking water.
• Have a track record in policy development and completing governance and assurance checks to time.
• Have a track record of managing internal and external resources beyond direct line management.
