Our client are a major defence technology business currently recruiting for a Senior Software Systems Engineer to join their Air Traffic Management division.

The Job
Job Description and Skills
Working as part of a multi-disciplined team, the software systems engineer will be involved at every phase of the product lifecycle from requirements to design and Integration and will have an enviable overview of the product as it evolves from its inception all the way through to delivery to the customer.
- Working alongside customer teams and other SEs to define and deliver ATM projects and solutions
- Ability to understand leading edge technologies
- Broad and Global view
- Strategic and tactical Identification and Implementation of providing solutions
The successful candidate must have the ability to build credibility and professional authority and exhibit exceptional influencing and motivational skills at all levels within the organisation.
Key Responsibility Areas
This individual would have specific responsibility for:
- Undertake requirement capture and management
- Organise and lead a comprehensive meeting that involves the entire team to discuss the solution being designed / offered
- Manage the functional design
- Responsibility for significant systems design decisions and sub-system level
- Lead Prototyping and development activities Software implementation, test and maintenance
- Maintaining Software Build and Test Environments
- Undertake general systems engineering activities
- Support marketing and bid preparation
- Implement customer acceptance activities
- Conduct regular status reviews
- Manage changes to the solution/ design while continuing to communicate the changes to the team
- Manage and communicate issues to senior management
- Hold a strong business dialogue at senior level
- Assist with closing and delivering new business opportunities securing long term revenue streams
- Discuss with and question prospective clients or business development/ bid team to identify what the business is trying to achieve through the solution
- Work closely with other key member’s i.e. Business development team, Bid manager and Project management team
- Carry out SDA responsibilities where designated
- Produce Requirements, Design Specifications, Integration plans and Test Specifications
Skills, Qualifications & Skills Required
• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline such as computer science, electronic engineering,
• Proven practical experience in software and systems engineering roles, e.g. technical architect, solution architect, senior software engineer.
• Practical experience in Aerospace/Defence organisation.
• Prospective candidates would be expected to have experience of:
• Systems and Software Engineering
• System Design activities and disciplines
• Complex high performance Information systems
• Enterprise Architectures
• Service Orientated Architectures
• Requirements capture and analysis
• Integration and Test
Prospective candidates would be expected to show:
• Excellent client facing skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Understand technical issues but more important is understanding of business drivers and return of investment
• Ability to lead a team in a multi-discipline environment
It would be advantageous if the candidate also had experience of
• Java EE
• HTML5, Javascript, or AngularJS
• Experience of Software build and repository tools (e.g. Nexus, Jenkins)
• IP/Ethernet Networking
• Radar Systems
• Large scale System Installation and commissioning
• Large Scale Network systems
• Working with complex integrated Software systems
• Software Integration technologies such as ESB
• Air Traffic Management Domain expertise
• Flight Data Processing or Trajectory Prediction
• Controller Working Position
• Knowledge of ATM developments in Europe, Eurocontrol or large ATM systems supplier
• MODAF/DoDAF or other Enterprise Architecture Modelling Framework
• Consulting experience and Business Change
