Principal Subcontract Specialist

Summary of Role:
Working without appreciable direction, exercises some latitude in determining approach to managing routine and non-routine subcontracts of moderate value and complexity. Identifies and manages commercial risk. Leads Subcontract Management activity in respect of supplier selection strategy and responses to customer Requests for Proposals. Negotiates Subcontract Agreements and changes. Interfaces internally and externally at senior level. Contributes to Business Area strategies. Maybe requested to work within a bid team developing Supply strategies and leading the sub-contract pricing activity.

Main Duties:
Preparation of Subcontract management strategies and plans at Business Area and Programme level.
Development of innovative Subcontract solutions (including selection of suppliers/solutions) in support of responses to Requests for Proposal
Negotiates Non-Standard Subcontract Agreements and changes
Identifies and manages risk and opportunity, working collaboratively with subcontractors and other project team members
Administration of complex due diligence activity
Responsible for programme financial performance associated with subcontracts
Responsible for Subcontractor compliance and performance
Responsible for acceptance and receipt of goods and services
Maintenance of records
Functional representative at customer, supplier and internal reviews including Gates, MBRBs and EACs
Produces business cases/ briefing materials for senior management reviews
Participates in/leads cross-functional improvement activity
Supports relationship management initiatives

Candidate Requirements:
MCIPS or working towards Level 5 certification.
Related degree or equivalent
Sub-contract management experience in the Aerospace and / or Defence industry
Knowledge of UK MoD contracting
Good working knowledge of import / export legislation
Experience of negotiating and changing multiple types of non-standard agreement including the flow down of requirements and the use of Statements of Work
Strong programme management skill set - Risk Management / Programme Gating / Metrics
Experience of supplier evaluation, performance management and selection
Extensive experience of logistics issues
Strong record of problem solving
Ability to work in a team
Excellent verbal and written communications
Flexible and positive attitude

Experience of cost analysis and related estimating techniques
Experience of collaborative working in BS11000 environment
Experience of dispute resolution
Team leader experience
Strong network of industry / internal contacts

Eligible for or Holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required)
