General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to create and manage various General Dynamics Mission Systems and client technologies. Key Responsibilities
Senior Systems Engineers analyze, design, develop and test General Dynamics Mission Systems systems to ensure the integration of software, hardware, reliability, maintainability, safety and other requirements in the total engineering effort. Additional Responsibilities include formulating operational concepts; performing mission, functional, cost-benefit and risk analysis; selecting systems architecture; and preparing specifications for General Dynamics Mission Systems operating systems to ensure designs meet applicable security specifications. These individuals may also be asked to document security on both new and fielded information systems or provide accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features are considered and functioning properly.

The Senior Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership throughout the product development process. Key to this role is interacting with, communicating successfully with, and leading electrical, mechanical and software engineers, and working in tandem with the Program Manager to successfully achieve program goals. Included are activities such as developing and tracking requirements, guiding the technical aspects of vehicle development, solving technical challenges, assisting in the effective use of team resources, and driving the technical team to make effective progress to meet the project deliverables. In addition, there is regular interaction with staff in the Manufacturing and Marine Operations organizations.

  • Exercise creative thinking to advance our business performance

  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs

  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures

  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices

  • Lead the technical aspects of specific product development efforts

  • Work with function-based team members (e.g., EE, ME, SW) and other company resources, to identify technical solutions that meet product requirements and to ensure technical success of the effort

  • Assist in the development of key project documents

  • Manage and troubleshoot interdisciplinary integration issues

  • Manage engineering design reviews

  • Drive project-related documentation and documentation change control

  • Coordinate development of content for product technical documentation

  • Participate in System Integration and Test

  • Develop Design Verification Test Plans and Procedures with the technical disciplines

  • Coordinate and review results of design verification testing, define responses

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Marine Operations in creation and execution of FAT and SAT as needed

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of various engineering systems and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.

The Senior Systems Engineer position requires a bachelors degree in Systems, Electrical, Computer Engineering or a specialized area, field or the equivalent and at least two to five years of related work experience. Applicants with a masters degree and a minimum of zero to two years of related experience are also eligible.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is desired at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience operating, maintaining or designing subsea vehicles

  • Experience working with undersea systems, including pressure vessels, encapsulation of electronics, wet cabling, seals, PBOF systems, marine materials, and corrosion control

  • Experience with structural design, weight and hydrostatics, and marine materials

  • Experience working on US Department of Defense projects, and with the related standards and contract requirements
