Responsibilities for this Position:

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS), a market leader and technology innovator, is seeking talented professionals to deliver cutting edge solutions to our customers.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Operations team. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to design and develop the systems, processes and tools that support internal and client operations. In addition to receiving a competitive salary and generous health and personal benefits, the Mechanical Engineer will enhance their skill-set among a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues. The employee will also enjoy a flexible work environment where contributions are recognized and rewarded.

Mechanical Engineers perform design and development in areas such as mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic and heat transfer. Their work will contribute directly to the goods and services provided by General Dynamics Mission Systems to its family of customers.

Candidates for this position should have experience in one of two broad areas:
  • High density electronics packaging of electro-optic hardware: High density electronics packaging will typically involve responsibility across the full lifetime of design, develop and deliver. Challenges involve managing component heat and protecting those same sensitive components from damaging environments. Production runs are small and maybe include 19" rack-style electronics or custom-cabinet electronics.
  • Subsea structural design and fabrication: Subsea structural design will typically involve the design, construction and test of structures intended to be used to perform tasks in a subsea environment. Challenges involve corrosion, deployment and general CONOP (concept of operation) management. Production runs are low and most deliverables are fabricated and tested with the oversight of the cognizant engineer.

Although experience in one of these areas is highly prized, a selected candidate will likely work in both areas unless their unique skills or personal preferences dictate otherwise.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of systems engineering and analysis, and the ability to effectively develop and evolve General Dynamics Mission Systems' technology.

The Mechanical Engineer position requires either a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related specialized area or the equivalent and a minimum of five to eight years of related experience or a Master's degree with a minimum of three to five years of related experience.

Candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance. A Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance with a polygraph is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
