About the Business Line
AECOM's Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM's Government business line and is comprised of three divisions - International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. GSS has the international presence, personnel networks and procurement infrastructure to deliver support for any mission, anywhere. Job Summary
AECOM is seeking several I&C Designers to be based in our Oak Ridge, TN office. The Designer is responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings through completion for assigned projects and custom equipment for the Department of Energy (DOE). in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project's discipline engineers. Works under the direction of the Design Supervisor or Lead Designer.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Works to project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards and procedures.
  2. Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project.
  3. Prepares complete information for design details, bill of materials, etc., that can be distributed to other design or draft personnel for completion.
  4. Understands project scope as presented within a specific discipline.
  5. Ensures that designs are consistent with project technical requirements and scope.
  6. Provides support for customer's engineering deliverables.
  7. Advises the Design Supervisor, Lead Designer or Supervising Discipline Engineer about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems.
  8. Checks assigned drawings supplied by vendors, customers and other discipline groups throughout the project to ensure quality designs.
  9. Provides technical guidance and assistance to other design and draft personnel and is responsible for neatness and accuracy of work.
  10. Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned design tasks.
  11. Plans and schedules design tasks associated with assigned project.
  12. Keeps proper files and records related to assigned design activities.
  13. Understands and uses computer software and applications associated with design assignments.
  14. Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training.
  15. Develops an understanding of the role of each of the other disciplines in Engineering.
  16. Supports alignment of customer and company objectives.
  17. Under direct supervision, completes design assignments of limited complexity.
  18. Applies a basic level of understanding within a specific discipline.
  19. Familiarity with codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline.
  20. Familiar with the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.
  21. Basic understanding of the purpose and use of vendor documents as reference for assigned tasks.
  22. Can assist in performing material take-offs for the discipline.
  23. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements
  • Associates degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 2 years of experience at a DOE or commercial nuclear facility in an I&C designer role.
  • Demonstrate working level knowledge of DOE and industry codes and standards and their applicability to I&C systems design.
  • Working knowledge of Loop Diagrams.
  • Proficient with Control System Architecture and Network Drawings.
  • Design, develop and interpret Control Schematic Diagrams.
  • Competent with Instrument Installation and placement Detail Drawings.
  • Proficient with Instrumentation and Control Panel Layout Drawings.
  • Skilled in Computer Aided Design (CAD) applications.
  • Competent with Instrumentation and Control Panel Wiring Drawings.
  • Able to develop Datasheets.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US citizens.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MicroStation experience is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with CREO, Pro/Engineer or Windchill is a plus.
  • Database software such as Microsoft Access also a plus.
