Today that is represented in our key role delivering the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier and our programmes include the world's most advanced, fully integrated, passive and active search and attack sonar suite fitted to the new Astute Class submarine.

As Software Engineer in our sonar division you will work on a diverse portfolio of projects including the first generation of autonomous mine hunting vehicles and the protection of our nuclear attack submarines. Working on the real time operating systems that our sonar technologies run on you will be involved in the full design cycle- communication and collaborating with customers to define requirements through to detailed design and the validation of your designs.

Key responsibilities

  • Define our solution by working with Systems Engineering to develop requirements and a test strategy
  • Develop our systems by working as a key member of a project team to deliver a high quality, robust software deliverable that meets customer requirements, on time and within budget
  • Support our systems by working with customer support functions to ensure that currently deployed software products are maintained on both land and at sea
  • Build our strategy by working with the software management function to ensure that skills, technology and ways of working are developed .

Skills qualifications and experience
  • Proven expertise of designing around Linux systems and shell scripts in a real time software environment
  • Full lifecycle exposure from requirements through to verification and test
  • Efficient and inventive programming skills in C, C or Java
  • Collaborative and supportive to other team members
  • Enjoys working on the boundaries of the possible.
