Project Support Engineer (Electrical)

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG, Kew) are looking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced engineer to assist its Estates Project department and to act as their technical interface with RBG, Kew`s FM providers (notably its hard services provider Cofely), directly appointed works contractors and other interested parties. The engineer`s duties would also include facilitating the planning, delivery and completion of a range of minor project works as a clerk of works.

Key responsibilities

These will be, in cooperation with RBG, Kew appointed Project Managers, to:
* assist and coordinate the successful implementation of electrical and mechanical works involving isolations or loss of service,
* investigate and make recommendations for such works that are part of upcoming projects,
* review methodologies proposed by contractors to enable the above to happen,
* coordinate between RBG, Kew and the various project stakeholders,
* advise on statutory requirements relating to project works,
* attend weekly project team meetings,
* have a broad understanding of construction engineering across all disciplines,
* support and develop good working relationships with RBG, Kew direct-appointed contractors to optimise value for money,
* ensure all necessary test and commissioning certification is completed for projects,
* ensure the timely and successful handing of installations back into maintenance and
* act in a clerk of works capacity to assist with ongoing works on site.

Skills, experience and qualifications

The successful candidate will probably be able to demonstrate that he or she has
* at least one or preferably both of a City & Guilds Electrical Installation or Test & Certification qualification - or the equivalent NVQ level in electrical engineering,
* proven analytical ability, with experience of data gathering to problem solve or produce solutions,
* excellent communication skills,
* excellent skills in relationship building within a team,
* an ability to manage his or her own workload and prioritise sensibly in a busy environment,
* experience of working on a historically sensitive site with heritage buildings and installations,
* experience of working within a live building/public space environment in a similar role and
* a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
