Main responsibilities and duties
Practical assistance with design of new products and support for existing products.
• Product testing for measurement performance
• Product testing for environmental, mechanical and EMC performance
• Quality Measurements tests
• Validation testing on new hardware and software
• Contribution to test plans
• Analysis and reporting of results
• Housekeeping & maintenance within two test labs
• Contribution to existing hardware, product support and improvement activities
• Assembling prototypes
• Design and build of simple test fixtures and equipment
Quality Measurement tests
Liaise with other departments, production engineering, quality, finished goods to perform random spot checks on finished goods to demonstrate meeting end user key performance criteria

Validation Testing of New Hardware and Software Designs
Work with new product development teams to create test plans to prove new designs comply with development specifications
Electronic hardware functional testing - accuracy, repeatability & reproducibility studies, usability etc
Functional testing of embedded software
Functional testing of PC apps
Functional testing of mobile apps (android & IOS)
Environmental testing (eg temperature, humidity, water & dust ingress protection)
Mechanical test (impact, shock, vibration)
Electrical safety assessment (insulation breakdown, heat rise etc)
Life test - mechanical ops, battery life etc
Electromagnetic compatibility testing (RFI immunity & emissions, ESD etc)
Test report preparation

Prototype Assembly
Source electronic and mechanical components for prototypes from Vendors
Basic schematic capture and PCB layout work
Hand soldering of printed circuit assemblies
Basic testing and fault finding of circuit assemblies using DMM and oscilloscope
Hand crafting suitable enclosures as required
Assembly into enclosures
Design and Build of Simple Test Fixtures and Equipment
Electronic and mechanical design of small test equipment and fixtures
Possibility to develop basic programming skills for automated tests
Basic schematic capture and PCB layout work

Laboratory Care
Organise facilities and equipment in small development laboratory
Ensure all lab equipment is properly maintained and facilities are kept in a clean & tidy state
Maintain stocks of components used for development work

Essential Qualifications and skills required
Minimum of HNC or equivalent experience in electronics and electrical engineering.
Strong analytical & problem solving skills
Methodical & careful approach to practical problems
Interested & curious about new technologies
Keen to learn about and to adapt to new ideas
IT Literate - Word, Excel,
Data entry (Attention to detail is essential)
Good organisational skills
Able to show initiative and adapt quickly to new requirements
Hands on approach. Strong practical skills
Able to work as part of goal orientated project team
Well organised and methodical
High level of numeracy, particularly statistical methods
Well presented with a positive, proactive and professional approach
