Our client is one of the most diverse and successful global construction organisations with an incredible portfolio of projects across construction, fit out and technical engineering, including data centres, labs and complex research and development.

Turnover last year was over £1bn globally, the organisation carried out some of the most challenging and intricate projects in Central London and indeed Western Europe. This particular division has the capability and experience to deliver complex refurbishment and fit out schemes ranging from £2m - £25m. They are currently in the process of successfully adding a multitude of exciting projects to their pre-existing and established pipeline of work and are now looking at strengthening their management team. Their typical clients will include: well-known global financial institutions, legal & accountancy practises and well known banking corporations; they also service the growing creative media blue chip organisations from around the world.

This role will be ideal for someone an operations background, either professionally qualified or indeed with a solid trade but will certainly require the individual to be strategic by approach and ideally well connected both front end and downstream - as much as client and consultant relationships are always useful, they are not essential to this position...

The Role:

A project manager is an integral part of any senior construction team. With a managing surveyor under their wing along with a strong delivery team, they act as a valuable cog in the machine ensuring that the client's requirements transpire at site level. Business development is also an important part of their role. The PM will acquire business through various methods ranging from networking to running tenders and overseeing the preconstruction process to maximise the influx of business to the company. They will head a large project at any one time, governing the respective project team while continuously reporting back to the client and acting as a middleman between the client, the consultants and the site based team.

Managing the cost centre and heading development within the company also fall under the remit of a PM. Development will encompass many areas within the business, including team and individual development, whether through the implementation of training or otherwise, recruitment and process and system development to increase efficiency and ultimately profit. There will also be a heavy involvement in planning again reflecting the needs and requirements of the client.

Listed below are the many functions that a PM will perform.

• Agreeing project objectives

• Leading the tender, bid and pitch process

• Representing the client's or organisation's interests

• Providing advice on the management of projects to client and consultants

• Procurement

• Risk assessment

• Ensuring Delivery of projects to all parties satisfaction

• Highlighting future opportunities

• Business development

• Ensuring quality standards

• Programming, Reporting, CVR's and Final Accounting

• Contract Negotiation

• Recruitment

The Individual

The right individual for this role needs to have an inclusive management style. It is imperative that they have proven people development skills as building a robust team is a key part of this role. The right person will be emotionally intelligent and almost chameleon like due to the front end nature of this role - the variety of stakeholders under this individual's leadership makes this a hugely important personality trait. The individual needs to be technically very switched on as they may need to 'roll up their sleeves' in order to resolve issues on site. They will need to have an excellent appreciation for design and material integration and also be able to foresee issues based on the information given. This is fundamentally a senior management role so people skills married with technical nous is the ideal mix
