One of the leading financial institutions in Australia is seeking a QS to join either their Melbourne or Sydney team. The group has an established portfolio of clients, and provide debt to a wide range of construction projects. This is a wonderful opportunity to join the established internal team of property & construction experts, providing in-depth expertise across the bank

The Opportunity
An opportunity exists for an experienced manager of construction risk to join the Sydney team, with particular focus on identifying and mitigating construction risks as part of the finance process.

The division have a thorough understanding of the construction industry, construction costs and the development process and this knowledge is utilised to support the property finance businesses in the bank. The construction risk team act as the construction consultants within the bank and are involved in all stages of major projects from initial client contact to repayment of the facility. In addition, you assist the property relationship teams with new to bank clients through industry networks.

This is an opportunity to transition and act as the client in many ways, on a variety of major construction schemes.

Responsibilities include;
* Attending customer meetings and site visits, as well as Project Control Group meetings
* Provision of internal construction advice
* Review and approval of builders and building contracts
* Estimating of construction costs
* Provision of feasibility modelling and analysis
* Preparation of construction risk assessment reports, which include identification of risks and mitigating factors that form part of the credit submission for proposed transactions
* Completion of drawdown schedules
* Monitoring of project risks throughout the life of the transaction
* Conducting reviews of development facilities that are no longer tracking on-schedule and specific technical advice to resolve any issues
* Provide specialist advice in respect of any due diligence reports, for example, environmental reports that are required in respect of property investment finance opportunities
* Maintaining an overview of the property development portfolio. This includes monitoring the development portfolios to ensure any potentially stressed facilities / stakeholders are known or industry trends that could adversely impact upon the portfolios
* Assist in up skilling the property relationship teams in the development process and construction costs

The Candidate
* Minimum of 8 years construction industry experience, with at least 5 years staff management
* Suitable candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:
o Understanding of construction contracting and contract law, risk management, and risk mitigation methods, and
o Management and estimating of construction projects
* And one or more of the following:
o Property development and property management,
o Quantity surveying
o An ability to critically appraise a range of specialist technical reports to identify principal development risks
Ideally tertiary qualified in building related discipline - RICS or CIOB qualifications highly regarded
