Job Title: Web Developer
Salary: £19.05 per hour
Duration: 3 Months initially, possibly permanent


We are recruiting for a Web Developer to make our award-winning website even better. As Web Developer you will play an essential role in the Marketing & Communications team at on of London's most prestigious Universities, providing technical expertise on the University's main marketing and communications channels, most notably the public-facing website and intranet. You will have technical knowledge of Content Management Systems, ideally Umbraco, and have working knowledge that includes HTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript. Knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and SharePoint are desirable. You will provide vital technical support to the marketing function through the development of the website, SEO, goal-tracking and analytics.
As Web Developer you will work with a number of internal stakeholders, some at a senior level, as well as external agencies and technology providers. Ideally you will be able to provide advice and guidance from a communications point of view as well as a technical point of view. The post will also require you to demonstrate high levels of organisational skill, project management, and relationship management.

Main Responsibilities
Develop website page templates, content types, new functionality and extensions
Manage website workflows and permissions
Develop digital technologies to support marketing and communications, including project work
Manage Search Engine Optimisation
Ensure the website adheres to accessibility and usability best practice
Identify, scope and work on new features and resources to advance the overall University web presence and digital communication
Maintain the website by monitoring performance and results, identifying and evaluating improvement options, introducing new technology and maintaining links
Provide quality web-based solutions delivered on time
Provide website analytic status reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising data and trends, especially in relation to ROI
Provide advice, support and technical training for devolved web editors
Ensure industry knowledge by keeping abreast of latest sector trends and technologies

Person Specification

Degree Educated, or equivalent qualifications. Essential

High level design and technical contributor with advanced knowledge and experience in the area of world wide web. Essential
Experience of front end development with a NA
Experience of Umbraco Development. Essential
Development experience with Microsoft MVC Razor engine. Desirable
Experience with Microsoft Transact-SQL. Desirable
Ability to hand code HTML and CSS. Essential
Google Analytics (or other) experience. Essential
Experience of JavaScript development. Desirable
Experience of front end development. Essential
Knowledge of UX best practices Essential
Experience of html email campaigns - development, list management etc. Essential
Experience in writing copy for web. Essential

Knowledge of website accessibility and usability best practices. Essential
PPC Advertising (AdWords, FB Ads, etc.) Desirable
Experience with Microsoft SharePoint (including document libraries and lists). Desirable
Excellent Microsoft Office skills (including Excel, Project, PowerPoint). Essential
Basic digital art working skills (Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks, or similar). Essential
