You will be working for...
One of the 10 UK University within a 125 strong IT department. The innovation and business partnering unit runs the iLancaster mobile phone platform, the innovation hub and a number of other innovative programming platforms. Lancaster University is one of the largest employers in the area, and has and Athena Swan bronze award, HR excellence in research, disabled Go and Equality counts awards. The innovation and mobile team provides an exciting opportunity to work developing the latest mobile phone applications as well as working with exciting new technologies. Our iLancaster app is an award winning platform for student engagement and has also led to wider work within the local community. We develop using scrum and agile project management methods, and have great fun! The innovation unit works on exciting projects which have included building the university campus in Minecraft and working on a gamification platform.

In this job...
The apprentice will work with a team of full time and student developers to specify, develop and improve the iLancaster mobile phone application, other web services and applications and websites and web solutions developed by the innovations hub.
The job offers the opportunity to learn new programming skills, web development and design skills, as well as to work with an award winning team and to interact with student and full time development staff. The job will also allow interaction with other apprentices across the university, as well as the opportunity to experience other areas of the IT department.
Your training will...
Start with a 12-14 month IT apprenticeship, which consists of training in small groups and work based assessment, covering: Object-oriented programming (OOP), SQL data modelling, Web and systems development, Event-driven programming.
You will gain City & Guilds Level 3 qualifications in IT Systems & Principles and IT Professional Competence, as well as a Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) in software development fundamentals. This fantastic opportunity can potentially lead to you earning £40k in the IT sector.

- Someone who has enthusiasm for IT
- Someone with experience of computer programming would be desirable
- Someone who has the willingness to learn new skills
- Someone with good social skills and ability to work well within a team
- Someone who ideally has 7 GCSE Grades (C and above) or equivalent, including Maths and English
