You will be working for...
A local government organisation. Successful candidate will be part of the development team assisting in the day to day development of ICT services. This will include the introduction of new hardware and software systems, internal development work and working on projects affecting many business areas. The diverse nature of the work will enable the apprentice to receive experience in a large range of ICT areas within a supportive environment.

In this job you will be...
- Developing bespoke applications using a variety of programing languages
- Troubleshooting existing business applications
- Investigating user requirements to ensure future needs are met
- Testing and deploying cloud technologies
- Assisting with Council-wide projects to roll out new, modern systems
- Liaising with internal and external contacts to troubleshoot and improve systems
- Working towards improving the baseline security of council ICT systems using modern technologies and techniques
- The design, build and testing of network infrastructure such as virtual servers, firewalls and network switches
Responsible for the support and development of all Council computer, network, printing and telecommunication services. ICT work closely with all departments to help provide efficient cost effective services to the council through the best use of technology. ICT is led by the ICT Manager and consists of two teams, Operations and Development.
The post holder will be based in the Development team, which is responsible for the design and development of new and existing ICT including business software applications, data and communication networks and infrastructure services. The Development team also includes GIS and street naming and numbering.
Your training will...
Start with a 12-14 month IT apprenticeship, which consists of training in small groups and work based assessment, covering: Object-oriented programming (OOP), SQL data modelling, Web and systems development, Event-driven programming.
You will gain City & Guilds Level 3 qualifications in IT Systems & Principles and IT Professional Competence, as well as a Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) in software development fundamentals. This fantastic opportunity can potentially lead to you earning £40k in the IT sector.

What happens when I finish my apprenticeship...
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the post holder will be appointed to the permanent post of Development Assistant. The Development Assistant role is 37 hours a week on Grade 3 SCP 18-25. That is £17,891 - £22,434 per annum. The starting salary will be £17,891, the post holder will receive an increment on an annual basis until they reach the top of the grade.
