Contracts Engineer

Reports to:

Project Department Manager

Overall Objectives

Monitor and manage the commercial and technical performance of projects.

Work closely with colleagues in other departments. Employees should regard the collective knowledge of the company as a valuable resource.

Identify activities that neither add value to the customer or to our organisation.

Ensure customer satisfaction.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience


* Project management experience
* Commercial Awareness and basic understanding of contract law
* Technical ability
* Process industry would be advantageous
* Proven ability to negotiate and liaise with clients and suppliers
* Working to standards
* HNC level in engineering discipline


* Water or process industry experience
* Stainless steel fabrication
* CDM regulations and general awareness of construction site health & safety issues.
* Degree level or equivalent in engineering discipline

Core Responsibilities

Review customer specifications and terms and conditions for new projects.

Ensure that your projects provide well-engineered cost effective solutions for customers.
Ensure that your projects comply with relevant specifications and technical requirements.
Ensure that your projects comply with relevant contractual, legal and quality requirements.
Maintain contract documentation for projects i.e. supplier/customer purchase orders and correspondence, budgets, programmes, shipment notes etc.
Ensure that your projects are expedited on time and within budget.
Ensure that customers are invoiced promptly.
Ensure customer complaints are responded to promptly.
Ensure that the performance of installations is validated at the commissioning stage of the project.
Get "buy-in" to your projects from other departments to ensure the above.
Provide feedback to the Technical Sales department on budgetary and project planning issues.
Work closely with customers. Visit customers, as necessary, to expedite projects and to maintain key relationships.
Work closely with key suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure efficient working and to maximise cost savings.
Provide archive documentation for completed projects
