Sitec are currently looking to recruit a CNC Machinist for a nuclear MoD establishment in Reading. The post is permanent and is paying competitively plus benefits which include generous holiday entitlement and defined benefit or defined contribution pension scheme, plus training and development and career progression.

Successful applicants will be required to be Security Cleared prior to appointment and must hold a British Passport and UK residency for the past 10 years or more to qualify.

Precision Machining with our client requires the programming and operation of modern machine tools in the production of high precision components and tooling. The type of work is varied, either prototype, trials or service related but important to meet our challenging manufacturing programme.

Key accountabilities

* Accountable for the production of high precision components that meet the required customer specification. This could be defined by sketches or engineering drawings and accompanied by route cards and/or process instructions
* Accountable for safety start up checks of plant and equipment, ensuring that these are documented as required
* Safe operation of machine tools and equipment


* To ensure that responsibilities with regard to the Company's Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards are met and understood
* Maintain a safe, clean and hygienic workplace
* Train craft apprentices and peers on the scope of tasks/operations
* Contribute to Task Reviewing, involving Customer liaison
* Design and manufacture tooling and fixtures as manufacturing aids
* Participate in work planning and route card generation
* To operate with minimum supervision whilst ensuring that the general provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 are complied with


* NVQ level 3
* Qualified to City and Guilds Part II or Ordinary National Certificate
* To have served a recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent


* A working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work act
* Ability to fully understand engineering drawings and/or sketches, and able to comprehend and follow written procedures and/or work instructions associated with the job
* Methodical Task Planning


* Experienced in the use of machine tools in the production of high precision components. CNC operation and programming experience would be desirable
* Use of mechanical inspection equipment
* Experience with programming and writing own programmes is essential


* Ability to operate a full range of machine tools and equipment in a safe, secure and efficient manner
* Able to use required hand tools


* Able to work individually and as part of a team
* Supports a continuous improvement culture
* Methodical approach to task implementation
* The post will require a flexible approach to work and will involve moving to any workshop across site as required, following the appropriate training
* Consistently demonstrates positive behaviours in relation to environment, safety, health, security and quality in line with the 'Our ESH Culture' framework

Special Requirements

* Willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the post
