Provide a service for the provision of approved packaging for the safe transport and storage of radioactive materials and other dangerous goods, hazardous materials and non-hazardous manufactured components
This service captures the business demand for Packaging, including the approval and hardware requirements, and integrate the demand into the Packaging Integrated Master Schedule (IMS). It covers the full packaging lifecycle from concept to disposal.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

• Responsible for understanding the business demand for Packaging from Helpdesk, Technology Centre Supplementary Schedules and customer requests, and translating this into the Packaging IMS, whilst managing stakeholder expectations
• Align Packaging approval, maintenance and hardware demand using an integrated approach
• Responsible for managing customer demand through Helpdesk requests and providing solutions in accordance with the baselined plan
• Report on Abnormal Events and provide metrics to the Quality Engineer
• Establish and manage the Packaging Forward Action Plan (FAP)
• Take ownership of the Packaging RAG status to optimize facility and personnel loading while meeting customer requirements
• Manage tasking and ensure appropriate budgetary control is in place
• Ensure alignment with high level schedules such as the company order book, Level 0 Plan, Technology Centre IMS and Supplementary Schedules
• Provide "what if" solutions to due to changes in customer requirements
• Drive the resolution of queries and RAG status impact through discussion with stakeholders as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• An understanding of in both depth and breadth of national and international regulations, and the legislative framework, relating to the transportation of dangerous goods and storage of hazardous materials
• Properties of dangerous goods and hazardous materials, including but not limited to radioactive materials, and their compatibility with common engineering materials
• Engineering principles and their application to the product lifecycle, CADMID etc.
• Standards applicable to engineering design, drawings, configuration and quality
• An understanding of science and engineering relevant to packaging design and approval
• Process understanding of special material manufacture and material properties
• Good understanding of manufacturing systems and knowledge of MRP/ERP systems
• Practical understanding in managing projects and project activity
• Application of company design and drawing standards
• UK Health and Safety Legislation in a manufacturing environment
• Application of quality standards and procedures
• Configuration Management and application of configuration standards
• Experience of applying Lean Manufacturing Techniques and Quality Tools
• Ability to produce Technical Product Specifications (Drawings, reports, instructions, specifications etc.)


• Essential: HNC/HND in appropriate discipline or equivalent experience
• Preferred: Degree or Incorporated Engineer with experience in relevant industry

Special Requirements:

• Willing and able to obtain and maintain the Security Clearance required for the role
• Willing and able to enter all AWE facilities
• Willing and able to travel both within the UK and overseas when required
