Development Engineer / Scientist Position Description:
This position is to take lead on the management, design and development of optical-based products/technologies/systems in the measurement of real-time detection of gas species. The products are focused on a novel tunable diode laser spectrometer that applies dispersion sensing as opposed to typical absorption spectroscopy.
The position requires not only leadership, but direct design contribution as a hands-on contributor. The ideal candidate will be capable to work as project leader/engineer as part of a cross-functional product development team to create new products, features, services, and processes.
This role works closely with our founding members, and reports directly to the CEO and Chief Scientific Officer. Our team is a small, very focused, and versatile multi-disciplinary group, and it is supported by other engineering resources in the local area and scientific knowledge from our origins. This role also requires that all proper documentation is generated and in place for Production to build and test the product.
Development Engineer Qualifications:
> MS in Optical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, E.E., M.E. or equivalent work experience with optical-based analytical instrumentation and project/personnel management experience.
> Minimum 5 years of experience designing optical, mechanical-optical, electro-optical, chemical, or spectroscopic systems for process control instrumentation. Low light level detection technology experience is desirable..
> Organisational and project management skills are required. Works well in a dynamic, cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team environment.
> Requires direct hands-on design skills in a relevant engineering discipline for an opto-mechanical technology with significant electrical hardware and software signal analysis and controls.
> Desirable - Proficiency with modern design tools to support some elements of mechanical, optical, statistical, electrical, etc... engineering is expected. (e.g. IDL/ MATLAB, SolidWorks, NA, MS Windows / Unix, Fortran or C).
> Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft Office tools.
You may have worked in the following capacities:
Optical Engineer, Optical Sensor Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Physicist, Optical Design Engineer, Optical Development Scientist / Physicist, Laser Spectroscopy Engineer.
