Electrical Design and Controls Engineer |
Gloucester to £35k neg dep exp plus benefits
Our client has been established for almost 50 years and specialise in the manufacture of bespoke special purpose machinery for supply to a range of prestigious blue chip clients and industry sectors on a global basis. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an articulate, dynamic and self-motivated Electrical Design and Controls Engineer to complement their established and successful team.
Reporting to the Technical Director, the successful Electrical Design and Controls Engineer will be responsible for providing electrical engineering support from initial build concept through to on-site commissioning on a range of spm projects, and supporting the Production Department by developing electrical wiring diagrams & parts lists for new machine builds, before following the machines through to installation & test of both machine software & control systems upon completion.
You will be involved in all aspects of the machine development from the initial Contract Review discussions, through to on-site installation & commissioning of the finished machine, and will be responsible for designing electrical panels, preparing wiring diagrams, issuing electrical parts lists, installing software, liaising with suppliers & customers as appropriate, and testing machines and commissioning them in the field (so flexibility to travel both throughout the UK and internationally is essential for the position).
Core responsibilities will include providing electrical engineering support to Production during the machine build and preparing electrical specifications, panel layout drawings, parts lists/bills of material, wiring & circuit diagrams etc. within agreed timescales, ensuring that all electrical designs are done in a cost effective manner and that accurate records are maintained and updated as required.
You will prepare electrical risk assessments and maintain the highest level of safety consciousness in the design process and will provide written end-user guides & instructions for the installation & operation of the control systems developed, whilst maintaining a high level of quality control at all times.
Other duties will include providing technical support to customers, i.e. fault-finding, problem solving & software enhancements, often necessitating visits to customers to commission machines and supporting customers in the field, including telephone support & site visits to solve machine problems, and assisting in running machine trials & tests with customer's materials as required.
To be considered for this varied and challenging role, it is envisaged that he successful candidate will be qualified to at least HND or above in Electrical Engineering or a similar relevant qualification with at least 3 years electrical design within a machine manufacturing environment, and essentially demonstrate a good working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical 2016 or a similar electrical design CAD software program and extensive experience of 3-phase motors & drives (servo & inverter), PLCs & HMIs. Familiarity with Siemens, Lenze & Pilz components and programming will prove distinctly advantageous. An understanding of designing machine safety circuits to ISO EN 13849 Parts 1 & 2 and knowledge of the EMC & Low Voltage directives would also be an advantage.
