Position : Group Technical Director

Sector : Foundry, investment casting, metals manufacturing, metals processing, CNC machining

Location : Chester. Ideal location for candidates in North West England, North Midlands, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, North Wales, Flintshire, Denbighshire, Monmouthshire

Salary : likely to be in the £70-100,000 bracket according to experience, car, generous pension, life assurance, discretionary bonus

The Business

* Well established specialist foundry
* Profitable
* Growing
* Extremely highly respected
* Major supplier to a number of industries, particularly strong in aerospace
* Turnover in excess of £25 million
* Multi-site UK manufacturing operation

The Person

* Degree qualified (as a minimum) in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering
* Post graduate qualifications beneficial (MSc, PhD)
* Chartered status preferred
* Experience of working as a Technical Manager or Technical Director in a foundry. Whilst investment casting is very much preferred any solid metallurgical experience of metal casting / metal melting is welcome
* Experience of quality standards (ISO, Nadcap, TS16949, AS9100 etc) and their implications on manufacturing
* Aerospace supply chain experience would be ideal
* Good interpersonal skills

Role Overview

* Sits as part of an executive leadership team of 5
* Reports to the MD
* 5-6 direct reports
* Set and manage all Group QA standards
* Control all materials and manufacturing processes
* Lead all research and development activity (materials, processes, production equipment)
* Establish strong links with 3rd party suppliers and partners (industry bodies, universities)
* Supporting all sites in scrap reduction programmes
* Establish and manage all values and performance standards
* Establish and manage all raw materials standards
* Be the "go to" persona for all metallurgical and quality issues
* Assist with production estimates for NPI and NPD
