OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
Capita CCS are a leading supplier of control room solutions for the emergency services and for markets that require high availability communications and control solutions. The DSX range of products provides communication capabilities, allowing operators to communicate with organisation members and the public via telephone, radio, and data based services. The DSX ICCS solution also provides the communications core for all other Capita CCS products, providing ControlWorks and VisionDS with their communication elements.
Over the next 1-4 years Capita CCS will be migrating the DSX and associated products from the UK public services TETRA based communications infrastructure to the next generation Emergency Services Network (ESN) infrastructure. This next generation will provide similar functionality to the existing provision, but will also provide opportunities to augment and expand the Capita CCS products.
Capita communications and control solutions are looking to recruit a Technical Architect into their product development department who is capable of leading all activities related to the deployment design of software solutions and all other non-software related aspects of the product solutions. Working alongside product management, the product solution owner and application technical architects, the systems engineering technical architect will be responsible for leading activities to ensure that product deployment design is suitable for efficient upgrade of existing customer systems to allow connection to ESN and ongoing supportability for future upgrades and enhancements.
The successful candidates will have ideally worked with Microsoft Hyper-V virtualisation techniques and have familiarity with mission critical high availability solution environments.
The Technical Architect will have responsibility for delivering the following and will be expected to provide task leadership to a small team of engineers to achieve this.
* Deployment design for CCS range of control room systems specifically in respect to client and server hardware, networking equipment, operating systems, other software) based on functional and non-functional requirements from the Product Owner, Systems Analysts and Solution Architects
* Definition of product information to enable deployment projects and support teams to effectively implement and maintain deployed systems to increase reliability and reduce system downtime
* Specification of equipment for test environments via Capita approved suppliers
* Investigative work into new 3rd party products - hardware, operating systems and COTS
* Liaison with product test teams to define specific non -functional system test requirements required to validate deployment design with particular emphasis on performance evaluation and metrics
* Improving procedures for new deployments, upgrades and applying OS critical updates
* Working closely with software development team to align non-functional requirements.
Troubleshooting and acting as third line support for internal and customer issues.
This role will be based within the ESN engineering team in our offices in Chippenham. Initially the role will be focused at defining the product architecture but will then evolve to providing expert advice to implementation and support projects as ESN deployment occurs between late 2017 and 2020. It is expected that there will be incremental enhancements to our product sets as technology changes and the role is expected to be key in developing this over the 10 year lifetime of the systems. The right candidate will also have the opportunity to progress to roles as either a customer programme specific solution architect or as a product development solution architect.
