Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Engineer to work in the Geotechnical Engineering Group for employment in the Pittsburgh, PA office. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Apply geotechnical engineering methods on variety of civil engineering projects including transportation, oil/gas, environment and water projects
  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks
  • Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings, reports and visual aids
  • Research and apply building code, regulatory and industry code requirements
  • Prepare civil design calculations, utilize civil/geotechnical design software
  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
  • May require overnight travel for field work or meeting

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field required
  • Minimum 2 years geotechnical engineering experience preferably in transportation or oil & gas industries
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration or ability to obtain EIT within 6 months of hire
  • Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and methods including but not limited to soil mechanics, slope stability, rock mechanics, earth pressure, settlement, bearing capacity, deep/shallow foundations and geotechnical laboratory testing.
  • Experience with geotechnical field work including test boring inspection (logging soil and rock), construction oversight and soil compaction verification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with writing geotechnical reports for transportation agencies and oil/gas clients

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Drilling Inspector Certification
  • Nuclear Gauge Training Certification
