Purpose of Role:|
Our Client has an urgent requirement for a Senior Power and Propulsion Engineer, to manage the systems integration team to advance the maturity of the Functional Model of the system to meet the project schedule. The initial requirement for this role is up to the T26 final Critical design Review (fCDR), currently scheduled for April 2017
To undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to operations and other functions and ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements. This role is intended to service is limited to the Type 26 Global Combat Ship
Key Technical Skills:
Possesses in-depth knowledge of most aspects within his/her discipline.
Able to perform analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements.
Has sufficient capability to be able make correct trade-off decisions
Key Mental/Analytical Skills:
Ensure effective application of process in assigned areas, including supporting the design, modifications and improvements to processes in accordance with relevant standards, best practice and developing needs
Interprets requirements from contract or other documentation producing specifications and/or instructions. Delivers cost effective data to budget and programme.
5 Years' experience in engineering or a defence or related industry
Good working experiences in more than one phase of the LCM, with sufficient experience of the total LCM to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues
Participate fully in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need.
Carry out relatively complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
Basic understanding of 'System Architect' software, in which the functional model is being developed.
This role is expected to support the delivery of a design that is fit for purpose and safe to use. The role holder will be familiar with methodical procedures for the identification, categorisation and itigation of hazards to personnel and to the environment.
Legal & Regulatory:
The role will be familiar with, able to work to and comply with the statutory regulations and instruments that are applicable to Power & Propulsion systems.
System calculations, diagrams and drawings supporting Design and assessment tasks, specific to own discipline.
