The Role

Due to a number of recent significant contract awards and an ongoing commitment to continue growth plans. Our client is currently seeking a Design Engineer (Electrical / Utilities) to prepare, develop and check designs to suit contract requirements.

• You will ensure that designs are deployed effectively, economically and in accordance with all appropriate regulations and specifications to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise profits on contracts
• The projects will range across all areas within the LV/HV, Connections, Cabling, Overhead, Underground and Sub-Stations arena
• You will provide design guidance and support to regional delivery teams, whilst representing the design department at all levels within the business including client meetings
• You will provide low cost, high quality engineering designs to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise sub-programme gain share
• Provide design solutions that meet all of the requirements the Project / Programme Mandates
• Produce design documents which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be purchased, installed and commissioned effectively
• The term 'cost' is to embrace all costs associated with the design and the subsequent construction of the design
• To be cost effective the whole out turn of the design solution must be considered, including design time costs, material costs, erection costs and any impact that the design solution might have on other disciplines
• Ensure that standard designs and design practices are utilised wherever possible
• Produce outline electrical, instrumentation and control design on contracts
• Attend internal design and external client meetings
• Liaise with other design disciplines / teams
• Liaise with Network Operating Companies (NOC's)
• Carry out surveys during site visits
• Review and approve / comment on sub-contractor designs
• Gain approval of designs from Clients
• Attend Factory Acceptance Tests at suppliers premises and produce reports
• Motivate team members by a positive attitude, knowledge, experience and guidance
• Ensure that company procedures are fully implemented
• Ensure designs produced and those of sub-contractors meet the requirements of the client / specification
• Ensure designs produced and those of sub-contractors are in accordance with all appropriate regulations
• Champion design Health and Safety and implement the latest regulations / legislation
• Ensure designs are within budget and produce the best overall outcome for the business

The Person

• Preferably at least 3-5 years' experience in any area of the electrical design industry
• A working knowledge of industrial electrical distribution systems
• Knowledge of Electricity at Work Regulations
• Knowledge of power distribution systems and associated calculations
• Ideally a knowledge of Distribution Network Operators (DNO's)
• Ideally a knowledge of LV, 11kv and 33kv networks
• Preferably an Electrical Engineering Degree or HND/HNC
