Our client is a leading construction contractor who provides building expertise across a wide range of industries including education, leisure, commercial, airports and industrial.
Projects may involve new build, design & build, extension, refurbishment and framework.

They have a revenue of over £500 million and project value can range anywhere from £2 million to £80 million, depending on the division. Our client's business has a good track record of counting on repeat custom from their valued clients.

With over 5 years worth of interesting projects already secured, our client is able to offer employees job security along with a good company culture and a close-knit team that provides the right level of support for the right QS to progress quickly.

They are looking for a QS to work site based on the Essex borders on an interesting design & build educational facility with a value of around £2 million.

Job Role

Ensure there is effective cost management of the project through regular and accurate forecasting and cost/value reporting.
Lead and manage the procurement process to maximize profit and ensure subcontract orders are placed on time and in accordance with the company policy. (including references taken, suitable levels of HSEQ etc)
Monitor and maximize cash flow.
Support, advise, develop and train all members of the site team on commercial matters.
Be aware of the contractual requirements of the project, advise the site team on key requirements and ensure that all notices and other matters are actioned accordingly to protect their contractual position (Main, Sub-Contracts and Consultancy Agreements)
Act and ensure others are acting in their best commercial interests at all times.
Review and commercially assess sub-contract packages for incorporation into the main tender when required.
Review tender information for VE opportunities
Assist the Bid team as required.
Produce a Procurement Schedule in close conjunction with the Project Manager
Ensure staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities with particular reference to their commercial interests.
Ensure that sub-contractor's scope of works are clearly defined and that all appropriate information is contained within the sub-contract documentation.
Ensure that the progress of procurement is optimized to ensure programme is maintained and buying opportunities are maximized
Ensure that the client aspirations are understood, met and exceeded
Ensure accurate records of site activities undertaken and events are maintained and collated for easy reference
Ensure that the commercial team comply with the company commercial policy
Ensure that the monthly commercial reports are produced on time
Ensure the Main Contract is resolved in a timely manner and that all contractual formalities associated with this are completed.

The Candidate

* Adequate experience as an Assistant QS/QS.
* An accredited course by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES).
* Alternatively, a degree with some numerical or technical is advantageous.
* Relevant HND subjects include building/construction, urban and land studies, civil engineering and structural engineering.
* Adequate experience as an Assistant QS/QS.
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Full, clean UK driving licence
