As a Principal Radio Engineer at Thales you will lead a design team in throughout the design process and ensure our products conform to client requirements. This position is responsible for the management of design production, estimates, programs and work packages for bids, as well as ensuring that projects and services are delivered on budget, and on-time.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the innovation of complete system solutions for mainline and urban rail, utilising radio technologies such as analogue & digital PMR, GSM-R, TETRA, Wi-Fi and emerging LTE standards
  • Document complete system designs based on equipment, software and services to meet technical and cost targets
  • Lead technical investigations and produce reports as required
  • Present designs at internal and external design reviews
  • Conduct physical surveys of application designs and scope of works
  • Investigate, diagnose and resolve interference and intermodulation issues
  • Provide technical guidance, advice and support to services team
  • Ensure that safety risks are designed out or deemed as low as possible.

Skills, qualifications and experience

  • You have a HNC/HND/Engineering degree or equivalent, and hold or are working towards Designer and/or Design Manager Licence
  • A commitment to quality assurance as well as to safe working practise
  • Experience in a radio engineering environment at senior level and knowledge of the CDM regulations
  • Good understanding of the Engineering lifecycle and has demonstrated design capabilities
  • Has experience in leading teams (both direct reports and contractors) and has mentored/developed others.
