We are offering a Master's Thesis Project for 2 students:
Improve test-case execution time
At Rail Control Solution Division in Hässleholm

Rail Control Solutions (RCS) is a world leader in developing, engineering and installing rail control and signalling safety systems, products and services. RCS enables the safe and efficient operation of rail networks and trains.

2 successful candidates shall carry out the Master Thesis proposed by RCS Bombardier under a 5-month period of time. The division "Wayside Execute all subsystem test-cases for adaptation simulator on a single machine takes over 10 hours. There are ~800 TC and typical time for executing one standard TC is ~60 seconds but with big variation between the different TCs. There is a big need for decreasing the execution time in order to reduce the feedback loop when doing changes to the code.
The long-term goal is to reduce typical time for running a single normal TC to The Master Thesis shall be concluded by the summary of the results and a report that describes the different method that has been investigated. Implementation of a subset of proposed suggestions is also requested.

  1. Investigate our test-environment and measure current TC execution time. Investigate different methods for reducing execution time. Propose suggestions for improvement. Prioritize the suggestions based on cost and expected gain.
  2. Implement some of the proposals that are realistic within the timeframe for the thesis and measure the improvement.
  3. Compile a report of how to continue the work with the proposed suggestions and the result of investigation of the long-term goal.

We are offering this thesis project to a final year Master's student for a period of 5 months (20 weeks), summing up to 30 credits.
  • Students coming from: Engineering in the domain of computer science
  • Good knowledge of theories and techniques in: Test design, module testing, code verification or similar
  • Good knowledge of Embedded and Real Time Systems
  • Experience of tool or skills in: Linux, C/C and test scripting languages
  • Fluent English language skills are required for this project. Swedish language skills are considered an added-value.
