Your new company
Your new company is a vibrant structural engineering design practice based in the heart of central London. They operate at the forefront of structural design and offer a range of interesting project work. Values ranging from £1 Million- £100 million they cover a variety of sectors including; High end residential, retail, commercial, stadiums and sports venues to bespoke, artistic design pieces. This company has a lot to offer alongside the leading design work. They are a very social company and with 85 people in the office there is always something going on. From sports teams, Friday drinks, day trips to areas of interest as well as an annual company trip (this year was a trip to New York). CPD is an essential part of the make up of this company and something they value highly, from weekly CPD, charter preparation meetings to a dedicated mentor.
Your new role
Your new role will be as a structural design engineer. At this level you will be responsible for producing high quality design work under the direction of a senior engineer. At this level you will be given the responsibility to be client facing, involved in design meetings and taking charge of some of the smaller projects. You will be challenged in this role by complex design problems and challenging architectural briefs but for the right person this is an exceptional opportunity to develop your career at a leading design practice and quickly build you experience towards your charter.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role you will be a driven, motivated and passionate engineer with the willingness to learn and develop your skills. The people fit is as important as the technical ability so a combination of the two is essential. On the people side they are looking for a confident, outgoing engineer who will be at home meeting and dealing with clients but also happy to get involved in the office activities on occasion. On the technical side you will have an in-depth understanding of the core design principals, as well as experience using the 4 core materials (RC, Steel, Masonry and Timber), design experience using glass or other materials is a bonus. A good degree result of 2:1 or above, ideally at a top university will substantially improve your chances.
