Job Description

The client are a fast growing and rapidly expanding North East software company, who require an experienced Software Engineer to take the company forward as the technical lead.

The Head of Technical Development is very much a hands on development role and the individual will be central to the software development process. The role will report to the CEO and is responsible for the company's technical vision and leads all aspects of its technical development.

The role is the senior technical position within the organisation and is pivotal in the company's strategic direction, development and future growth.


Ensure that technology standards and best practices are maintained across the organisation
Manage and control the company's internal technological processes and build and shape the technical culture
Ensure technical problems and issues with projects are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner
Monitor project progress in conjunction with the Project Manager
Lead scoping, R&D and discovery phases for each project and develop the specification and used case documents
Assist the CCO in securing new work and co-author proposal and tender documents
Constantly review the company's software development techniques and methodologies and lead on technical innovation
Monitor and assist in the software development process and ensure deadlines set are realistic and achievable
Assist the COO in the recruitment process to identify, secure and retain talent
Plan, coordinate and run the internal and external training for the development team and own the skills matrix


Experienced software engineer with 10+ years of commercial and technical experience
Experience of managing and leading a development team
Thorough knowledge of .net or LAMP stack
Proven success of process implementation and technical innovation
Able to demonstrate project management experience, focusing on AGILE and Kanban methodologies
Experience of the complete project life cycle from inception and design to testing and deployment
