Make Ready Engineer

The Outside Plant (OSP) Make Ready Engineer is responsible for make-ready work associated with fiber to the home (FTTH) projects. This position consists of field surveys and review of existing pole facilities including fiber installation assessments, coordination with pole owners, permitting, right-of-way, and related tasks to facilitate FTTH design and construction NA, the Make Ready Engineer is responsible for classifying the existing utility poles for the scope of work required in making space for new attachments. Given the geographic scope of responsibilities, the incumbent will need to occasionally travel to areas where construction activity is ongoing.

Duties include:
  • Develop, implement, and scale the end-to-end process for make-ready, permitting, right-of-way, etc. to accelerate FTTH design and construction
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams within network and OSP engineering to ensure a cost-effective plant
  • Support the design and engineering process by planning and preparing drawings for construction of new and removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optics
  • Identify any NESC or Utility violations and revise point of attachment (POA) for fiber bundle to meet NESC and utility clearance requirements
  • Complete pole surveys, pole loading analysis, drawings, and QC drawings in support of application preparation
  • Create BOM utilizing the pole owner's system and inventory numbers

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of related work experience OR equivalent working experience in fiber industry including OSP and/or Make Ready
  • Knowledge of FTTH design and Outside Plant Engineering practices
  • Able to develop understanding of relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and design standards
  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently use a tablet
  • The right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
  • The physical ability to perform walk downs

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • GIS Database Manipulation
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Experience with pole analysis software (PLS Pole, O-Calc, Spida Calc, Pole Forman, TNX Tower, etc).
  • OSP Line work experience or OSP Engineering
