Senior Design Manager - Heavy Industrial|
Contract £400 - £450 per day

Purpose, Context & Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this post is to assist the Senior Design Manager for Energy from Waste and Science & Research in achieving the objectives of the Company with respect to managing and coordinating the design process of any given project with both internal and external designers. In doing this, to ensure maximum commercial and technical effectiveness and efficiency is maintained within the design team.
To provide effective management and coordination of Design teams (both internal and external) to ensure delivery of the technical scope in line with agreed scope, assurance requirements, budget and schedule;
To provide effective management and input to the Project Team to ensure delivery of the technical scope in line with agreed scope, site requirements, budget and schedule;
To develop the customer requirements so as to manage the scope of work;
To ensure that all team members comply with respect to matters on health, safety and environmental protection.
Maintain the efficient management of the project design team on a day to day basis monitoring technical, financial and health and safety implications;
Produce monthly reports, programmes and documents indicating project design status and any pertinent technical issues. Attending meetings as required;
Contribute to co-operative working across disciplines, including the identification of responsibilities, in accordance with the company's procedures, and contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams, leading them when required;
Contribute to ensuring that effective internal/external working relationships are established and maintained with clients, sub-contractors and specialist suppliers. Ensuring that confidentiality is observed and maintained when dealing with private/confidential correspondence, reports, statements, records, other documents and information;
To ensure the effective use of company resources and sub-contract packages in accordance with individual project cost Plans;
Responsible for monitoring the production and progress of design information in accordance with the project Timescales;
Responsible for ensuring information of the appropriate quality is produced and delivered within the required timescales to meet the needs of the design/costing/manufacturing/construction process (as applicable);
Manage the production of tender design documents in support of the design team members. Assist Quantity Surveyors in evaluating tender returns as may be required;
Monitor and comment on sub-contractors work as may be required on individual projects;
Provide a professional and high quality service in accordance with the Company's Quality Assurance procedures and assist in the review of standards and procedures to ensure a continuing improvement in the service provided to the company's clients;
As a senior member of the project management team, it is the Design Manager's responsibility to guide and direct the project design team to achieve the project's overall objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
At least 15 years' demonstrable experience covering a range of engineering and/or technical topics including design, analysis, specification, safety case support, installation, commissioning, and supervision of staff/contractors. This would ideally be covering a variety of tasks or projects across a range of complexities.
Have experience in the industrial sector of process design.
Ability to work to deadlines, under pressure and on own initiative.
Experience of Quality systems to BS EN ISO 9001.
Possess good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate well at all levels and be able to control certain financial aspects of contracts and/or projects.
Sound knowledge with broad experience in design, installation and management of construction. The post holder must have working knowledge of current legislation and practices
Self-motivated rational thinker with good motivational skills able to communicate with all disciplines at all levels
Well organised and capable of organising others with the ability to manage people, processes and time
Team player with an energetic outlook able to educate and improve design team staff to achieve best results
Ability to analyse and monitor project requirements including programme, resource & cost
Ability to work to deadlines, under pressure and on own initiative
The post holder should possess a current driving licence.
Have experience in the high technology or industrial sector of process design.
Highly Desirable (but not essential)
Evidence of continuing professional development and an ongoing commitment to undertake training and studies to meet the demands of both current and future legislation relating to the design of building services and construction.
Experience in the planning, organising and control of external contractors, be able to provide services to agreed standards, time scales and budgets
