We are currently seeking a Supervising Mechanical Engineer - Rail Vehicles to join our Transit & Rail Technical Excellence Center (TEC) in our West Region, working from our Los Angeles, California office.

The Supervising Mechanical Engineer - Rail Vehicles will be responsible for providing technical expertise for mechanical and/or electrical systems installed on rail vehicles. Vehicle technologies will include streetcar, light rail, and rapid transit vehicles. Potential projects will include the LA Metro Red Line new vehicle procurement program, the MBTA Red/Orange Line project, and other on-call vehicle engineering programs.

Responsibilities for this position include:
      • Assuming technical and responsibility for the preparation of technical reports in accordance with Parsons Brinckerhoff's ISO requirements and as requested by the client
      • Preparation of progress reports to Rail Vehicle Manager
      • Preparation of Technical Specification documents
      • Investigation of vehicle system issues as requested by the client
      • Assisting in new pursuits.
      • Performing billable work and other tasks as assigned as best fits training and ability.

Job Requirements
      • A minimum of ten years of experience in transit and rail systems design and management of transit and rail systems design employed by a major consultant, agency or contractor.
      • Knowledge of and experience with the mechanical/electrical systems associated with rail vehicles such as ATC, communications, braking, HVAC, carbody structures, trucks, diesel engines, hydraulic transmissions, gearboxes and HEP units. Specific significant expertise in one of these systems is a plus!
      • Ability to coordinate multiple activities in a logical and orderly manner.
      • Good communication and writing skills.
      • The ability to work in a disciplined manner with little supervision
      • Experience with commuter rail passenger vehicles, diesel multiple units and locomotives would be a plus!

Education Required:
      • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline consistent with mechanical, electrical, or systems.
      • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of California preferred.
