Job Summary
We are currently recruiting for Bridge Engineers to join our busy and expanding Bridges and Structures team in our centrally located Birmingham office.

Our Birmingham office has an established track record of successfully delivering major transport schemes. Our project workload ranges from feasibility studies and scheme designs to assessments, inspections, detailed design, independent checking of complex structures, construction support and management services on a wide range of bridges and transport projects including highway and railway schemes. The team is involved in local, national and international work with a variety of clients both from the public and private sector including design & build partnerships with contractors.

Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international bridges and structures projects including Network Rail Civils Assessments Framework, London Highway Alliance Contract, Birmingham City Council Structures, A6 Manchester Airport Relief Road and Design & Build schemes in North and East England.

As a Bridge Engineer you will have the following daily responsibilities:
• Take a leading role in the design of major civil engineering structures.
• Prepare designs under minimal supervision.
• Assist with the commercial and financial control of your project.
• Analysis and detailed design of road/rail bridges and other structures.
• Inspection, assessment and strengthening of road/rail bridges and other structures.
• Supervision of graduate engineers and technicians.
• Planning and project management.
• Prepare, implement and assess contract documents.
• Report writing and production of technical reports and documents.

Minimum Requirements
• Experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes.
• Knowledge and working understanding of the client's Codes of Practice NR/SP/CIV/035 'Assessment of structures' & NR/GN/CIV/025 'The Structural Assessment of Underbridges' or the Highway equivalent codes of BD21, BD44, BD56 & BD61.
• Experience in the production of bridge assessment documentation including interim reports, Form AA and Form BA's.
• Competence to minimum unit STE 4 level in accordance with NR/SP/CTM/017.
• Unit STE 2 competence would be advantageous.
• Experience in the use of computer modelling for structural analysis (i.e. Structural Bridge Design, LUSAS, SuperSTRESS, Archie-M, RING).
• Knowledge of load capacity assessments.
• Application of sensitivity analysis as a result of marginally assessed bridges.

Preferred Qualifications
• Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent.
• On route to becoming a Chartered Engineer with ICE or IstructE.
