Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Quality Control Engineer for immediate employment in the middle or south George (Thomaston, Tifton, or Jessup). The successful candidate will be supporting technicians and engineers in functional areas of roadway maintenance and surveying; scheduling and status; roadway design; traffic signal equipment; traffic signalization and geometrics; materials sampling, inspection, and testing. In this position, you will use a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment, as well as providing instructions to others. This position is contingent upon award of contract.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide Maintenance Management and Design (MMD) Services to support GDOT State Maintenance Office and District Maintenance Offices
  • Serve as a technical and administrative extension of GDOT's State Maintenance Office and District Maintenance Offices to provide Management, Administration, Inspection and Design Services as required for GDOT maintenance service contracts, capital maintenance, and asset management programs
  • Support technicians and engineers in functional areas such as roadway and bridge program management, contract maintenance preparation, estimation and verification of quantities, data collection; contract oversight and inspection; materials sampling and testing; project design; scheduling and project report status; EEO compliance; processing Maintenance Contract modifications
  • In this position, you will use a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment, as well as providing instructions to others
  • Develop written procedures for process flow and quality control/quality assurance
  • Devise procedures and design and develop forms and instructions for recording, evaluating and reporting quality data to ensure quality process flow
  • Perform root cause analysis to determine cause and effect
  • Perform independent inspections of roadways and structure maintenance processes and materials to assure compliance with various maintenance contracts
  • May review and oversee complex inspections. This includes overseeing the inspection of asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and mix; pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction; roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications; structural materials and members; placement of culverts; structural operations such as foundation excavation; placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill; and traffic control and erosion control devices
  • Perform complex variety of calculations and computations
  • Review and validate work details and making technical decisions related to the office aspects of maintenance related projects
  • Review contract documentation duties which may include field measurements of pay, items as well as another department, required documentation

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or High school diploma and equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience
  • Knowledge of pavement resurfacing, rehabilitation of asphalt and concrete pavement, striping, right of way reclamation, mowing, guardrail repair and replacement, litter pickup, crack sealing, fence repair and replacement, sound wall repair and replacement, sweeping and vegetation removal
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction and of mathematical functions including geometry and trigonometry
  • Drafting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions and inspection procedures
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions and inspection procedures
  • Familiarity with GDOT procedures, including the Construction and Maintenance Manual
  • Familiarity with GDOT software to perform essential functions, such as Georgia Asset Management System (GAMS)
