Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Estimator for immediate employment in the San Diego, CA office. This position is responsible for activities related to estimating all elements of project cost, including labor (manual and non-manual), materials and equipment, supplies, consumables and expenses, escalation, and contingency on a large California K-12 school district bond program.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Development of independent estimates and/or review of estimates provided by others (to determine accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness)
  • Participation in developing strategies and plans for project delivery; and analysis of estimates to forecast key issues
  • May work directly with architects, engineers, consultants, and/or construction contractors to resolve estimate differences/variances
  • Reviews contractor change order requests for accuracy
  • Collects, analyzes, and archives project cost data
  • Establishes and maintains a cost database
  • Develops historical documentation
  • Participates in value engineering workshops
  • Supervises estimating staff

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in engineering, construction or other relevant field
  • 11 years of estimating experience; or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities, and experience
  • Experience must include estimating for California K-12 schools projects and familiarity with DSA requirements
  • Experience must demonstrate progressively responsible duties up to and including estimating on medium to large commercial projects with a construction value in excess of $10M.
  • Proficient in the use of various constructions estimating tools/resources (i.e., RS Means) and building codes
  • Expertise with developing and maintaining a database for actual local construction costs
  • Expertise with various spreadsheet applications (i.e., Excel, Access)
  • Skills must include investigating and resolving claims and negotiating change orders
  • Ability to review construction drawings and specifications and provide constructability comments
  • Must have experience overseeing and managing estimating staff
  • Capabilities must include preparation of order of magnitude, preliminary, and definitive estimates utilizing methods commonly used in the construction industry
  • Valid driver's license
  • Due to the nature of this work, US Citizenship is required
  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
