Responsible for the coordination of the inspection of ongoing underground construction on the project. Coordinates compliance of schedule, safety, cost, and quality decisions in conjunction with the lead Construction Manager. |
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
•Discuss anticipated daily activities with the Grouting Inspectors before they leave for the field each morning.
Discuss specific concerns regarding expectations for each stage of a hole based on what was encountered in adjacent holes or the same hole the previous day. Support Grouting Inspectors and assess what problems can arise, key indicators, and what particular information of interest should be recorded in the field.
•Be available to the Grouting Inspectors throughout the work shift to answer questions and provide guidance.
Some issues discussed may include: grouting and water test pressures; stage length adjustment; data/history from previous work in a particular hole; data from other holes; problems with surface leaks during drilling, water testing and grouting; problems with packer location; hole caving and numerous other scenarios.
•Attend weekly grouting meetings with representatives from the Contractor and main client.
•As part of the planning process, prepare scaled, hand-drawn cross sections (on velum) showing surface topography, grout holes, location of bottom of grout curtain and length of grout holes.
The final cross sections (on velum) are utilized for plotting the accumulated data during production grouting in real time.
•Prepare Hole Instruction Sheets for all grout holes, to include hole name, depth, inclination, azimuth, water test pressures and grouting pressures.
After providing those instruction sheets to the Grouting Engineer for review, the Hole Instruction Sheets are forwarded to the client team for review and approval.
•Maintain hand-drawn scaled cross sections (on velum) of the ongoing work in real time showing grout hole stage lengths, water pressure test data and pressure grouting (HMG and LMG) data.
This is one of the most important tasks.
•Provide daily updates (via spreadsheet) such that CAD generated sections can be updated for continual review. Data to include hole numbers, stage lengths, water pressure testing and pressure grouting results.
•Work with the CAD technician, either remotely or at the site, to confirm that cross sections and plan view figures are accurate and up to date.
These figures will be forwarded to the client on a regular basis.
•Review Grouting Inspectors' reports on a daily basis and make adjustments and interpretations of the data for updating of the grout hole cross sections and database.
•Receive, review, interpret and mark-up the Raw Grouting Data provided by the Contractor.
The data packages include the contractor's assessment of daily pay quantities, contractor boring logs and the Raw Data from the Computerized Real Time Monitoring and Assessment System.
•Compare and correlate the Grouting Inspectors' field reports with the Raw Grout Data and information provided by the contractor.
•Track quantities on a daily basis. Prepare a summary of the approved daily pay quantities. Other daily quantities may be assessed by the Database Encoder.
•Assemble the Grouting Inspectors' reports, Raw Grout Data, Contractor boring logs, Contractor's daily pay item summary, and the Grouting Coordinator's daily summary into a package that the Database Encoder can utilize. Consult with the Database Encoder on a daily basis during entry of data into the database.
•Prepare and/or review letters, memorandum and emails generated by the Grouting Team.
•Prepare and/or review the grouting reports and coordinate preparation of tables, sections and figures with the CAD person and Database Encoder.
•Review and mark-up all tables, figures and sections, and work closely with the CAD person and Database Encoder to implement any corrections and/or improvements.
•Provide final review of the monthly report once the CAD person has assembled text, photos, tables, figures, sections and appendices into the report template.
•Meet with the Grouting Inspectors after the shift to review what transpired in each hole and stage.
