This North Manchester main construction contractor has a role to join their dynamic and expanding business. It's a really varied role in a busy environment. They now want to develop their commercial team further and recruit a right hand person for the current commercial director. Their work is established and they have grown successfully through the recession.
The successful candidate will need to be a great communicator, good at organising and be able to prioritise a large and varied work load. They will also need plenty of initiative and the flexibility to adapt to different situations, in a fast-paced environment.
This role plays an integral part in each project's success and as such potential candidates must demonstrate that they are able to deliver each of the points below, but most of all they must be 'the right fit' for the business.
Roles and Responsibilities
•To support, develop relationships and work closely with the Directors of the business.
•To manage all aspects of the commercial and surveying functions of the business and help take the business forward.
•To work proactively with all functions of the business; operational teams, services, SHEQ
•Admin, accounts etc, to 'up skill' their commercial awareness, foster one team ethos and deliver successful and profitable projects.
•Build working relationships with clients and their teams (Project managers, Cost managers, consultants ) and 'be seen' both in and out of the business including attending client entertaining events.
•Play a proactive part in senior management meetings and disseminate information to the business.
•Take an active participation in projects throughout the whole lifecycle, from tender to final accounts settlements.
•Initiate meetings with project team at an early pre commencement stage to assess project risks and opportunities, understand prelim and work package content (and exclusions).
•Lead subcontract prestart meetings.
•Regularly attend Design Team and progress meetings throughout the project.
•Lead project close out and post PC project review meetings.
•Manage and develop the quantity surveyors training and progression as individuals and a team.
•Assist with tender (or negotiation) preparation and adjudication and subcontract procurement.
•Develop relationships with and manage the supply chain to mitigate risks and improve in all areas.
•Review the commercial processes, improve where necessary and ensure consistency and compliance.
•Work closely with the surveyors to produce up to date (always live and accurate) project commercial information, place orders, undertake valuations, agree final accounts etc.
•Ensure cash flow is managed proactively.
•Use the above information to assist the Directors and Accounts Manager in producing and updating financial reports for the whole business, and ensure this information is regularly shared with the project team.
•Offer guidance in workload allocation.
•Be visible and approachable - both in the business and in front of clients and the supply chain
•Play an active part in future recruitment of surveyors and the structure of the team
