Their team of engineers and site operatives are highly qualified in the field of piling and ground engineering, as such, they have successfully delivered a wide range of projects including civil works, sheet piling, CFA piling, bored piers, retaining walls and abutments and foundations for a variety of sectors such as construction, infrastructure, roads, rail, mining and offshore throughout Australia. These services are provided to a broad client base of developers, builders, engineering consultants, architects, mining industry contractors and government / public organisations. The Role

To manage and control the Company's commercial activities and give strategic guidance and direction to the board helping to ensure that the Company achieves revenue and profitability objectives. This is a senior management position and there is scope for expansion of the Commercial department to meet the needs of the business and associated growth objectives. The role needs to have a strong interface and alignment with the Pre-Construction, Operations and Finance functions of the business.


• Reviewing and agreeing sub-contracts with a wide variety of clients seeking to use various forms of contract.
• Developing a system for the monitoring of costs and revenue to determine the financial outcome and profitability of individual contracts
• Scheduling and monitoring the applications for payment, following up and resolving late or disputed payments
• Carrying out checks on the creditworthiness of clients and where necessary securing additional credit insurance and / or agreeing a suitable payment process
• Check and approve conditions of contract for projects and resolve any problems in a timely manner
• Offering guidance, direction and instruction to both the Estimating and Contracts teams
• Monitor projects performance and visit sites on a regular basis and where necessary report risk to the managing Director
• Maintain and evolve policy on commercial, contractual and risk matters and implement on agreement with the Managing Director
• Reviewing and developing operational processes
• Ensuring that all stakeholders understand and adhere to contractual obligations
• Ensuring that the financial aspects and impact of a contract are clear to all parties
• Overseeing commercial financial KPI's
• Management / mentoring / training of the commercial team
• Personal and team adherence to existing working practices, methods and procedures
• Adopt a proactive approach to HSEQ and to co-operate with the Company's Health and Safety Manager with regard to relevant health, safety and environment legislation, policies, and processes
• To carry out all duties and responsibilities within the overall function, commensurate with the senior level of this position

The Person

• A proven and demonstrable track record of success as an accomplished Lead / Managing Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager within the Heavy Construction or Civil Engineering Sub-Contracting sector
• Strong organisational skills for planning schedules and workloads
• Whilst specific formal commercial qualifications are not essential, they are desirable, ideally with a BSc Hons in Commercial Management and / or Quantity Surveying
• Ability to manage a team with strong leadership, interpersonal and motivational skills
• High understanding of construction and civil engineering contract forms and associated processes
• Driven to achieve commercial excellence and in doing so support the Company's growth targets and activities
• A market led approach to business, with a clear understanding of the process required to determine and prioritise the needs and goals of clients
• Strong commercial awareness with excellent numeracy skills
• Strong negotiator with the ability to articulate themselves in both written and verbal communications
• Client liaison and first class analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
• Excellent IT skills and knowledge of relevant software
• The flexibility to relocate to Sydney, Australia
