A newly created Purchasing Engineer role has been created for a business in the Mansfield area. The client is looking for someone who has both an engineering and procurement/purchasing background|
The role will see the right person being responsible for the control of supplier quality, achieved through a proactive, partnership approach with suppliers.
Significant emphasis is placed on the Engineer element of the job; the role includes involvement at an early stage in the development of new products and their associated manufacturing processes to ensure that new products can be manufactured and at their lowest possible cost from the point of launch.
Select new suppliers based upon evidence both of their process capability and their general attitude and approach to quality.
Routinely review the capability of all suppliers against requirement
Recommend suppliers for qualification and/or disqualification based upon quality performance.
Develop a positive, progressive relationship with all key suppliers
Develop with each key supplier documented control plans for all critical components and work with the supplier to ensure compliance
Audit key suppliers according to the supplier audit plan against individual control plans.
Working with the supplier directly, create supplier corrective action requests to address process failures.
Drive a "Zero Defect" mentality within the supply chain
To improve supply chain control and where appropriate
Be a member of the new product development project team. Attend design meetings and reviews providing input to product and process design.
As required, plan for Initial Sample Inspection Reports and verify results. Arrange process validation, document and approve
Actively work with product development and manufacturing to improve the product design for existing components to improve business performance
Proactively work with suppliers who are under control to introduce process improvements to further prevent the potential for quality problems and/or reduce component costs
Who should apply?
As already stated, this role needs someone who has worked in an engineering capacity and who ideally with be educated to include at least an HNC in Engineering.
You will be a thorough and analytical; individual who will see processes through from start to a positive conclusion. You will be someone who naturally engages with stakeholders (internal and external) and in particular can build good rapport with suppliers.
