The position is for a Front End Software Developer working to develop, enhance, maintain and support the company's business critical web based services. The applications delivering the services have an interactive user interface as secure dynamic web pages over the Internet as well as a significant server based data processing components and behind-the-scenes data transfer systems.

This role is Front End focused, however candidates will have the opportunity to work on all technical aspects of the system - designing and developing new services and features, enhancing functionality, integrating new financial institutions, resolving issues and providing technical support.

The role is for a senior developer with an eye for building attractive and practical web based user interfaces and in-depth understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript/Ajax and PHP.

A key focus will be on the design and implementation of graphical User Interface of the websites to support multiple modern browsers.

Knowledge of the Sencha ExtJS or other JavaScript frameworks, Twitter Bootstrap and Node JS would be highly beneficial. We believe in continuous improvement and a successful candidate would enjoy sharing with and learning from a team of talented systems engineers.

The role encompasses the following activities:
* Design and build attractive, highly usable web-based User Interfaces
* Data presentation using graphs
* Design, implement, test and release new features and enhancements
* Develop tools to improve internal processes and maintain quality of service
* Investigate and fix software issues in existing systems
* Provide second-line technical assistance to end users by telephone and e-mail
* Document code, interfaces, services and procedures as appropriate
* Work in an agile environment, providing estimates and sprint planning and daily scrum
* Support and monitor production systems on a rota basis
* Identify opportunities for system / process improvements or new features
* Work autonomously or as a team member in an ad-hoc team
There is the potential for increased or additional responsibility depending on aptitude and experience.

Challenges and Opportunities:
The key challenges and opportunities in this role are to:
* Develop a comprehensive understanding of the services provided and the associated benefits / value proposition for clients
* Develop a clear understanding of business complexities specific to the Securities Lending / REPO / Equity Finance markets
* Gain an understanding of the complex technical structure of *client* services, starting initially at high level, then increasing in depth over time.
* Ensure *client* continues to deliver exceptional client service. (e.g. by being flexible, having a "can do" approach, making data integration easy, understanding client requirements)
* Proactively interact with colleagues - requesting and providing guidance, help and mentoring as appropriate

Main Technologies:
* Apache:, interactive dynamic applications using HTML, CSS, Ajax and JavaScript PHP, experience with frameworks, an understanding of web-application security risks and mitigation; Sencha ExtJS JavaScript, Twitter Bootstrap, Node JS and React.
* MySQL: SQL, database structures and performance, big-data, data normalisation / denormalisation, query optimisation
* PHP and Javascript : OO, inheritance, encapsulation, performance, complex multi-dimensional data structures, coupling and cohesion
* HTML and CSS and JS : HTML5, CSS3, JQuery, Ajax, Less, JSON
* Linux: Debian
* Various tools - Jira, CVS, Phabricator, Confluence

* Good degree / Academic qualifications, 5+ years software development experience
* Self-motivated, pro-active and autonomous, with good team-working skills
* Good problem solving skills, and the ability to prioritise appropriately
* Ability to absorb and retain complex business and technical information rapidly
* Strong design and software development skills, including appropriate OO patterns
* Experience in graphical User Interface design and implementation, including knowledge of ease of use
* SQL and relational data modelling skills
* Experience in software development on the *nix / web environment

Salary £45 - £75K, discretionary Bonus Paid Annually, 25 days holiday and 5% Pension Contribution into a SIPP at Hargreaves Lansdown. Opportunity to learn about finance and gain an entry to the world of banks and finance
