Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a Accountant Intermediate to be based in our Sherwood Park location.

Responsible for performing more complex accounting work in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) requiring some skills and judgment. Duties may include: Produces trend and variance reports and ad-hoc summaries for management. Advises operating department on accounting issues. Assists in the development of financial statements. Assists in the implementation of accounting policies, systems and procedures. Responsible for the tracking and calculating of operating costs and expenses in the general ledger. Typically has a post-secondary degree in Accounting or related field and has obtained (or working towards) a professional accounting designation. Generally has 3 - 5 years of related experience.

May include the following responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the Finance Manager, the successful individual will be a member of the team responsible for analyzing and reporting operations Centre(s) activities and results and supervise as required
  • The individual will also be responsible for aiding in the creation and monitoring of business processes
  • Month-end review, adjustments, accruals, etc.
  • Provide financial assistance to Service Line management
  • Preparation of financial reports on a monthly basis
  • May be involved in annual budgeting process
  • Account analysis as required to determine variances from standard processes
  • Overall cost reviews including implementing processes to add additional controls to minimize costs
  • Understand and monitor the use of the JDE system to ensure data is being properly captured and reported
  • Assist in development and testing of and changes to business processes and systems
  • Supporting the Service Line Operations Managers and Finance Manager as required
  • Providing accounting support
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned not otherwise captured in this position description
  • Indirect supervision includes: Assigns and becomes responsible for work
  • Direct supervision includes: Approves overtime or time off, Approves and signs expenses, Hires or terminates employees, Disciplines employees, Completes PMPs for direct reports, Assigns and becomes responsible for work, Operates within Existing Budgetary Limits

Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum of College diploma/certificate required or degree from an accredited Business Administration program with a focus on accounting
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel is required

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Requirements:
  • Enrollment in program leading to an accounting designation, CMA or CGA is an asset
  • Proficiency with accounting systems, preferably JD Edwards
