Title - Principal Geotechnical Design Engineer

Location - Derbyshire

Role summary

Our client requires a chartered Principal Geotechnical Engineer with a broad range of high-level technical experience to either lead or support civil/structural or geotechnical sectors of our business in Derbyshire and who is capable of running projects and client liaison.

Key duties will include:

- Leading a team of engineers and technicians

- Detailed design and analysis

- Proven experience of geomechanical principles and their application of:
Soil mechanics and foundation design
Rock mechanics and rock mass behaviour
Slope stability and slope remediation
Groundwater behaviour

- Project management from feasibility to detailed design, including all technical, programme and cost monitoring

- Control and monitoring of progress against programmes

- Ensuring that design, assessments and checking of designs are in accordance with the current Standards, Codes of Practice and Best Practice

- Approval of designs, assessments and calculations in accordance with quality procedures

- Preparation of risk assessments and full compliance with CDM

- Coordination of work undertaken by external sub-contractors and design checkers

- Client management

- Mentoring junior engineers and developing their technical skills

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

- Must be a chartered engineer with CGeol or CEng

- Preferably an MSc in either Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering

- Must have experience working in a design environment.

- Experience both on site and in the design office is preferred.

- Experience in the rail and/or tunnelling sectors

- Be familiar with Eurocodes

- Sound understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically the designers requirements

- Sound understanding of the requirements regarding the risk assessment process

- Ability to manage own time; other engineers and technicians; SI subcontractors

- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
