A vacancy has arisen for a Director of Aviation who will lead, develop and expand the my clients Aviation Team offering, maintaining its position as a brand leader in the design and planning of airport facilities in the UK and overseas. This is a multi-disciplinary team comprising civil, electrical and mechanical engineers with a portfolio of high profile projects, working for airport clients, contractors (D&B) on both civil and military airports.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented and energetic leader who is passionate about the airport and aviation market. The duties will include:
General Day to Day Management
Supportive leadership of this team of Aviation specialists
Develop a sound reporting structure within the team
Listening, guiding and mentoring staff
Identifying resource needs, recruitment and succession planning
Staff development and training planning
Team player, leading by example
Reporting performance of team to group Director on a monthly basis
Technically strong CV, wide and diverse knowledge of aviation design and / or planning
Experience of working with ICAO, CAP, EASA and IATA standards
Experience of working with MOD MADS standard (optional)
Overall responsibility for guaranteeing technical delivery, quality and accuracy
Provide technical guidance to team through reviews/audits and help staff solve technical issues
Able to represent my client technically within specialist discipline
Ensure competence of staff across projects
Maintain sound engineering processes within the team: do, check, review and approve.
Business Development/ Sales and Marketing
Sector Awareness, Sector Strengths/Weaknesses in which aviation team operates
Develop work opportunities within the sector
Ability to sell the full offering (structures, PM and surveying) when the opportunity arises
Reacting to market changes
Explore, test and develop new markets, both UK and overseas
Prospect and Orderbook accuracy
Client awareness and satisfaction (Customers)
Strong track record of winning work
Bid / No bid with group director and SMT
Understand marketable fee levels, BUE, %, previous, costs per deliverable etc.
Develop bids and fee proposals that are profitable
Review job resources on a weekly basis with senior aviation staff;
Commercial awareness of aviation market
Engage staff in commercial awareness.
Manage unbillable time/utilisation/travel costs
