Role Overview

Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join their Construction team in London to work on a large section of works in the Thames region. The purpose of role will be as a Senior Engineer based out on site, to control a section of the works, according to a specific discipline, along with management of a team of Site Engineers within same discipline. The position will suit someone with a civil engineering background, preferably with working experience in relation to the scope of works on the framework that includes; flood alleviation/prevention, embankment stabilisation, civils, piling, water treatment etc.


• Interpret drawings and set out on site, have a full understanding of reinforcement drawings and bending schedules
• Liaise with sub-contractors and clearly explain operational and commercial matters affecting them
• Control the sub-contractors with respect to quality and interpretation of information
• Understand and interpret project specifications such that these are met fully by the sub-contractor
• Produce reports and surveys as required by Site Management
• Ensure that the works are constructed safely in accordance with the contract drawings, specification, Work Package Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, the programme and Health, Safety & Environmental legislation
• Manage, supervise and mentor site engineer(s) in their roles and responsibilities
• Manage permit to break ground procedure and prepare and review associated permits for your section of works
• Prepare and review Work Package Plans (Risk Assessments, Method Statements)
• Maintaining a positive and proactive relationship with the Client
• Assist in production of monthly cost forecast
• Material take offs and ordering
• Maintaining accurate and detailed records including daily diary, as built records

Role Requirements:

• Be capable of interpreting drawings and using knowledge to set out buildings, earthworks and drainage
• Have the ability to use all types of surveying instruments and to be able to establish primary and secondary setting out controls
• Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately
• Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity
• Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
• Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card, SSSTS or SMSTS qualified
• Is able to identify potential hazards and is proactive in implementing actions and controls
• Good level of Environmental Awareness
• Able to carry out complex setting out
• Able to resolve issues with control and information provided
• Able to identify issues on drawings and suggest construction solutions
• Actively drives the production of quality handover documentation and information
• Strong understanding of construction tolerances
• Awareness of Specification and other Contract documents
• Understands and can use the information provided in the Stage Programme, disseminating this to the team
