Responsibilities for this Position:

GDMS has an immediate opening for a Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Technician to join our Fort Belvior, VA Engineering team. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge equipment and systems that support some of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to build and further advance GDMS technologies. The SATCOM Technician monitors, analyzes and repairs GDMS engineering, network and Radio Frequency (RF) technologies, as well as other technical issues that impact operations. This individual is also responsible for the test, calibration, monitor and maintenance of the organizations equipment, components, devices and systems. The RF Engineering Technician will be asked to test, and refine specifications and procedures. The technician will be tasked with report preparation and documentation of technical issues.

The SATCOM Technician configures, tests and analyzes satellite based Digital Signal Processing telecommunications technologies, as well as other technical issues that impact operations. The successful candidate will:
  • Support overall operational crew activities for a larger system
  • Be the system expert in satellite communications discipline
  • Support a 24x7 shift schedule
  • Report status and discrepancies in system performance in a concise manner
  • Investigate and rectify all procedural discrepancies
  • Identify areas of process improvement
  • Serve as a mentor to junior team members

This individual will be responsible for:
  • Assist in adapting factory delivered processes and procedures as well as identifying and developing required processes and procedures that are not delivered with the system
  • Utilizing procedures and concept of operations (CONOPS) to complete daily duties
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships across multiple contractor lines

Basic Qualifications:

The SATCOM Technician position requires an Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology and 5 to 8 years related work experience.

This individual must have strong theoretical and practical application of the following areas:
  • Experience operating complex satellite infrastructure
  • Experience using Unix and Microsoft based platforms
  • Understanding of TCP/IP Networking protocols and standards
  • Perform troubleshooting, and fault isolation of earth terminal baseband and Intermediate Frequency/Radio Frequency components
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of satellite communications
  • Detailed knowledge of Satellite Baseband Infrastructure
  • Satellite antennae (C-Band , Ku, Ka)

Department of Defense TS/SCI clearance required at time of hire. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a Polygraph within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
