GDMS has an immediate opening for a Space Operations Mission Systems Engineer to join our team at our Seabrook, MD location. This position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to build and ensure adequate functionality of various GDMS and client technologies. The Space Operations Mission Systems Engineer will participate in requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system elements direct supervision. In this role, the Space Operations Mission Systems Engineer will be responsible for :
  • Researching and analyzing data, such as vendor products, Commercial-off-the-shelf components, Government, Contractor, and Buyer furnished equipment, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Supporting the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
  • Planning sub-tasks for activities described above
  • Effective application of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories Keeps abreast of technology trends

The Space Operations Mission Systems Engineer must be:
  • Familiar with technical standards
  • Aware of business objective and Engineering role in achieving
  • Familiar with requirements management and system modeling tool
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Creative thinker, good multi-tasker
  • Skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Ability to clearly recognize and report relevant to sound systems engineering design
  • Receives instructions from immediate supervisor
  • Contact with multiple work groups
  • Works under general supervision
  • Contact with project leaders and other professionals within the Engineering department
  • May have some contact outside Engineering or with external customers

Basic Qualifications:

The Space Operations Mission Systems Engineer requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent experience is required. In addition, a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required or a Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field, and three to five years of related experience.

Candidate must have spacecraft and instrument operations experience. Candidate should be experiences in National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) Mission Operations processes and procedures. Fluency in common scripting language, STOL, Perl C+ are needed. Good inter-personal skills and ability to work in a team environment is needed. As needed, candidate must be able to work nights and weekend to support special mission operations. In addition, the Space Operations Mission Systems Engineer must:
  • Be be able to travel 20% of the time
  • Be knowledgeable and possess experience with NASA spacecraft systems engineering processes and protocols
  • Candidate should be familiar with NASA space mission life-cycle
  • National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation will be required
