You’ll have to be fully versed in high power electronics systems and power topologies because you’ll mainly be overseeing the full lifecycle design of high-power DC-DC converters (1kW-40kW and up to 1kV), as well as working on product specifications with customers. In most cases this will involve working with one or more software or hardware engineers as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

The Job
• Technical expert providing expertise on new product development to support road-map and client projects.
• Detail design of analogue, digital and power circuitry from first principles
• Support system, sub system design validation activities and design reviews
• Design of test rigs, hardware-in-the loop for end of line test and commissioning
• Defining test and validation plans to ensure that hardware is robust and complies with the specification
• Use the best processes/tools to optimise productivity
• Support development of project/product delivery plans
• Hands on use of test equipment, tools and software
• Provide technical input on electronic development projects.
• Provide daily feedback on activities, plans and issues
• Ensuring work is compliant to correct design approvals and sign off procedures
• Provision of technical input into the requirements capture/quotation process
• Seeing projects through from conception to handover.
• Degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent qualification, other routes will be considered based on experience
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience of automotive industry standards and practices
• Experience in design of high power electronics (typically DC:DC converters, charging solutions, motor controllers)
• Experience in successfully delivering products from conception to production
• Excellent planning skills
• Good communication skills
• Understanding and application of industry and legal standards
• PCB layout of analogue and digital boards using Altium ideally
• Hands on experience with prototyping and soldering
• Knowledge of high reliability systems
• Knowledge of EMC standards and experience of issue resolution
• Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office applications
• Driving license
• Formal Project Management experience would be useful
• Knowledge of ISO26262 and working in safety critical environments
• Knowledge of Matlab Simulink
